This is an Automated Meter Reader (AMR). An AMR device can be either embedded within a meter or physically attached to an existing meter. The AMR will send meter reading data directly to us via an appointed agent.
You can complete our AMR form and return it to amr@crowngas.co.uk. We will pass your details onto our metering partner who will arrange a convenient time to install the equipment. Take a look at our AMR installation Request Form.
For any further payment or billing queries not addressed above, please contact our Credit Control team on 0161 762 7744 or accounts@crowngas.co.uk
Direct debit payments are taken on or around the 15th of each calendar month. Any amounts due after such date are usually taken around 10 days after the date of invoice.
Meter reads are to be submitted within the last 3 working days of each calendar month. We recommend that you submit regular meter readings to ensure the accuracy of your bills. Furthermore, you may want to consider having an AMR installed in order to generate more accurate, automatic meter readings for your convenience. For new customers, once you have transferred, we require an opening meter read 3 days before the contract start date. Don’t forget to enrol on to our meter reading reminder list! More information can be found under the ‘How do I submit a meter reading?’ tab below.
YES – if you have received an estimated bill, amended meter readings should be submitted within 10 days of the estimated invoice. We aim to reduce the number of estimated energy bills by ensuring our customers take appropriate measures to manage their energy.

VAT on business gas & electricity bills is usually charged at a rate of 20%, but some businesses will be able to pay a reduced rate of 5%, if they use less than 33 kilowatt-hours of electricity – or less than 145kw hours of gas – per day due to de minimis. There is also a list of qualifying business types that can qualify for 5%, regardless of usage (schools, charities etc).
VAT for business energy supply is set at a standard rate of 20%. However, there are some exceptions where businesses may qualify for a reduced rate of 5%.
The de minimis business energy rate refers to the threshold set by HMRC for which VAT will be charged at the reduced rate for gas or electricity. If your usage meets the de minimis criteria, then your business will automatically be charged VAT at a reduced rate of 5%. The de minimis level for gas consumed is 145 kWh per day or 4,397 kWh per month. For electricity this level is 33 kWh per day or 1,000 kWh per month.
Further details, including how de minimis applies, are available by HMRC here.
Reduced rate qualification:
If you fall into criteria 1 or 2 as listed above, you can notify us of the reduced rate by completing a VAT Declaration form.
